We teach Cambridge IGCSE Malay online, one to one, to students anywhere in Malaysia. After your WhatsApp enquiry we assign an experienced teacher to your child, and they begin with a paid one-hour trial at that teacher’s confirmed rate, starting from RM80. The rate is confirmed before the lesson.

Further lessons continue at the same rate as the trial; schedule and frequency are arranged with the teacher. The trial is a taught lesson that uses your own Malay as the material.

Which Malay route is yours: 0546 or 0696?

Cambridge lists two separate Malay qualifications: Malay Foreign Language 0546 and First Language Malay 0696. They are different entries with different expectations, so good tuition starts by knowing which one you are entered for.

Your school or exam centre makes that entry. If you are unsure, ask the centre before the first lesson, and check the current syllabus on the Cambridge page for your code. Our guide to telling 0546 and 0696 apart lists what to ask.

SPM Bahasa Melayu is separate from both routes. Your SPM-style Malay is a strong base, but a Cambridge task has its own wording, purpose and marking approach.

Who is this tuition for?

It suits students who want teaching in the actual Cambridge Malay route, not general Malay lessons. You may recognise yourself in one of these situations:

The student does the language work, and the parent decides whether a trial is worth trying.

What can one-to-one teaching change?

A class moves at one pace. A teacher working with one student can listen to how you actually write and speak, then name the exact habit that costs you marks. In Malay, that habit is often about route: the right vocabulary in the wrong kind of answer.

Here are two original examples from a trial-style lesson, each tagged with its route.

Route 0546 (Foreign Language): a short personal message

Task. Write a message to a friend about last weekend. Say where you went, who you went with, what you did and why.

First attempt.

Saya pergi pasar. Saya beli ikan. Saya balik.

Every sentence is correct, but the message covers only “where” and “what”. It gives no companion, no reason and no link between the ideas.

Teacher’s questions. Who went with you? Why did you buy fish? What happened after that? The student answers each one aloud, and the teacher writes down the student’s own words.

Second attempt.

Hujung minggu lalu saya pergi ke pasar dengan ibu. Kami membeli ikan dan sayur kerana kami mahu memasak makan malam. Selepas itu kami pulang dan membantu nenek di dapur.

The message now covers every purpose in the task. It uses a time marker (hujung minggu lalu), a reason connector (kerana) and a sequence word (selepas itu). The skill being trained is covering each purpose, which you can practise in covering each purpose in a short personal message.

Route 0696 (First Language): developing one claim

Task. Write a paragraph giving your view on whether phones should be allowed in class.

First attempt.

Telefon bimbit merosakkan pelajar. Ramai pelajar suka bermain telefon. Jadi telefon tidak patut dibawa ke sekolah.

The claim is strong, but it is asserted, not supported. The second and third sentences repeat the idea without a relevant example.

Teacher’s question. What exactly does a phone damage, and what would a reader see happen?

Second attempt.

Telefon bimbit boleh menjejaskan tumpuan pelajar, terutamanya apabila pemberitahuan muncul semasa mereka menyiapkan tugasan. Seorang pelajar yang menyemak skrin setiap sepuluh minit akan mengambil masa lebih lama untuk menghabiskan satu soalan yang sepatutnya ringkas. Oleh itu, peraturan yang mengehadkan penggunaan telefon di dalam kelas melindungi masa belajar dan membantu pelajar menyiapkan tugasan.

The claim now has a specific effect, an example and a consequence that answers the task. The skill is developing an idea, practised in developing a claim with a relevant example.

The two examples look alike but train different things. Route 0546 rewards clear, complete communication at a foreign-language level.

Route 0696 asks for control of ideas, tone and organisation at a first-language level. A teacher who keeps the route in mind chooses different questions for each.

Where does tuition stop?

A teacher cannot sit your paper or replace the practice you do between lessons. Try tasks alone, then bring what went wrong to the next lesson.

  • Registration, entry, results and access arrangements belong to your school or exam centre and Cambridge.
  • Which route you take is a course-selection matter for your school or centre. We teach to the route you are entered for and do not make that decision.
  • The scope of each task type depends on your exam year. Check the Cambridge page and our 0546 code guide or 0696 code guide before the lesson.
  • Self-study may be enough if your gap is a short list of words. The terminology guide and original practice pages can cover that.

How does it work, from enquiry to trial?

  1. Enquire on WhatsApp. Tell us you want Malay, your exam year, and whether your entry is 0546, 0696 or not yet known. You do not need to send marks or essays.
  2. We assign a teacher. An experienced teacher is assigned to you, and we confirm that teacher’s rate for the paid one-hour trial, starting from RM80.
  3. Prepare a short agenda. The one-hour trial agenda builder helps you pick two problems to bring, so the hour goes to your real difficulties.
  4. Attend the trial. It is taught, one to one, online. Bring one piece of your own Malay writing or one spoken task you found hard.
  5. Reflect, then decide. The post-trial reflection guide separates understanding, communication and clarity about next steps. Further arrangements are agreed directly with the teacher.

The full process is on the trial page and in how tuition works.

Will the teaching separate the two routes?

Yes, and you can test it in the trial. Bring one task and watch for three things:

  1. Does the teacher ask which code you are entered for before choosing material?
  2. Does the teacher explain why a sentence suits one route and not the other, rather than just correcting it?
  3. Does the teacher keep the Malay example text in Malay and teach in Malay?

9,000+ students have been helped through our service across all subjects. That is a service-wide figure, so judge Malay by the trial itself.

Where to go next

Start with the Malay learning guide for the full topic map. Then use the assessment guide and study route to plan around your code.

For route separation, see Malay qualification routes. For 0546 work, try foreign-language writing and spoken interaction. For 0696 work, try first-language comprehension and first-language writing and organisation.

When you are ready, send a WhatsApp enquiry with your code, or tell us if you are not sure which route you are on.

What parents and students tell us

Questions people ask

How much is the Malay trial lesson?

The paid one-hour trial starts from RM80. The actual rate is the assigned teacher's confirmed rate, and we tell you on WhatsApp before the lesson. It is a taught class, not a consultation. Fees continue at the same rate as the trial; schedule and frequency are arranged with the teacher.

Will the teacher treat 0546 and 0696 as different routes?

Yes. Foreign Language Malay 0546 and First Language Malay 0696 are separate Cambridge qualifications, so we ask which one your school or exam centre has entered you for, and we teach to that route. If you are unsure, the first step is to confirm it with your centre.

I studied BM for SPM. Is that the same thing?

It is related, but SPM Bahasa Melayu is a different assessment. Formats, task types and expectations can differ. Your existing Malay is a real advantage, and the teacher shows you where SPM habits help and where a Cambridge task asks for something else.

Can the teacher choose my route or entry for me?

No. Entry, registration and any access arrangements belong to your school or exam centre and Cambridge. We can explain what each route involves so you can ask your centre informed questions, then teach to the route you are entered for.

Are your Malay examples in Malay or English?

The assessed language stays Malay. Malay lessons are taught in Malay, and every example sentence, notice or paragraph is written in Malay, because that is what you will read and write in the exam.

Can I get a free explanation or a free marking of my essay first?

No. The trial is a paid one-hour lesson so the teacher can give your work real time. The lessons, practice and difficulty guides on this site are open to use at any time.
