This section explains how Cambridge IGCSE assessment works, in plain language. Every important fact, such as a code, an exam year or an entry rule, is tied to an official Cambridge source or marked for you to confirm.
What will you find here?
Each subject has an assessment guide. It explains the route you are likely to be on, how the papers are organised and where to check current details. Other guides cover command words, answer evidence and how to read a question, which apply across subjects.
Paper numbers, durations, weightings and grade thresholds should be read from the current syllabus, and each guide tells you where.
How do you use the guides?
- Confirm your subject code and exam year first, using the qualifications section.
- Open the assessment guide for your subject and read how it is organised.
- Follow the source link and check the current syllabus against what you read.
- Turn it into practice with the command-word practice coach. If you are entering as a private candidate, the readiness checklist lists what to ask your centre.
Who handles your exam entry?
Registration, entries, timetables, results and access arrangements are managed by your school or exam centre and by Cambridge. Where a guide touches one of those areas, it tells you which questions to ask your centre.
Digital exam availability also varies by subject and series. Check the Cambridge page instead of assuming.
Where do you go next?
If you know the structure but not how to earn marks, try the students section. If one subject keeps costing you marks, a paid one-hour trial lets an assigned teacher go through your written answers. To see how we check facts, read our editorial process.
