We offer online one-to-one Cambridge IGCSE French (Foreign Language) tuition for students anywhere in Malaysia. An experienced teacher is assigned to your child, and the first step is a paid one-hour trial at that teacher’s confirmed rate, starting from RM80. It is a real taught lesson on your child’s own French, and the rate is confirmed before the lesson.

The teaching covers listening, reading, speaking and writing for French code 0520. This is a different qualification from First Language French (0501). The aim is French you can use to communicate, not a list of words translated one by one.

Who does this tuition suit?

It suits students who have met plenty of French but find that it does not come out when a question needs their own words. The gap is usually small and specific, which is why individual attention works.

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • You know the words for food, school and travel, but your sentences come out as English in French clothing.
  • You hear a number in a recording and write the wrong one, for example 60 when the speaker said 70.
  • Your paragraph has correct sentences, yet it reads as a list and skips what the task asked for.
  • Adjectives and verbs do not agree, and you only notice after the work is returned.
  • You stop after one short sentence in a speaking answer because you are afraid of a mistake.
  • You are not sure whether the guidance you found online is for 0520 or another French syllabus.
  • French is not spoken at home or at school beyond the lesson, and you want to practise aloud with someone who listens carefully.

If one of these sounds like you, the gap is probably a habit that can be noticed, corrected and practised. Parents can read the considering tuition guide to see when one-to-one teaching suits and when self-study or a group class may be enough.

What can individual teaching actually change?

In a class of many students, a teacher shows a model answer and moves on. In one-to-one teaching, the teacher can hear your French, separate what you understood from what you produced, and ask you to redo the weak part while they listen. The example below shows how that works.

A teaching example: a short exchange

Here is an original message, written for illustration.

Salut Inès, je ne peux pas aller au cinéma samedi, parce que j’ai un match de basket. On peut y aller dimanche à quatorze heures ? Dis-moi si tu es libre. À bientôt, Lucas

The task: Reply to Lucas. Say you are free on Sunday, suggest where to meet, and say one thing you will bring.

A typical first attempt:

Salut Lucas, oui, je suis libre dimanche. On se retrouve devant le cinéma à quatorze heures. Je suis apporter mon parapluie, parce que il pleut.

Check 1, comprehension. The teacher asks in English: “What changed, and to when?” The student answers “Sunday at 14.00”, which is right. So the message was understood, and the problem lies elsewhere.

Check 2, production. The teacher now hears the reply read aloud and stops at one phrase: je suis apporter. The student meant “I am bringing” and translated it word by word, so the verb être (to be) slipped in. French uses the plain present here: j’apporte. A second slip is parce que il, because que shortens before a vowel sound: parce qu’il.

What the teacher asks, one step at a time:

  1. “Say it in English, then tell me the French verb for ‘bring’.” (apporter.)
  2. “Does French need a helper verb for this action?” (No, j’apporte is enough.)
  3. “What happens to que in front of il?” (It becomes qu’, so parce qu’il pleut.)

A revised reply, written by the student after this exchange:

Salut Lucas, oui, je suis libre dimanche. On se retrouve devant le cinéma à quatorze heures. J’apporte mon parapluie, parce qu’il pleut.

Compare the two. The facts were already right. The improvement came from noticing why a wrong form appeared, which was an English habit, and then repairing it in the lesson.

A teacher can only see a pattern like this by listening to you. The lessons on present-time expression, sentence foundations and agreement and speaking preparation and interaction teach these skills in small steps.

Limits to know

Tuition cannot do the exam for you, and it cannot replace hearing and reading French between lessons. A teacher can suggest what to listen to and read, but you have to do it.

Your writing and speaking must be your own. A teacher will not write answers for you to submit, and will not supply scripts to learn by heart.

Entries, speaking test arrangements and any access arrangements belong to your school’s exam centre and Cambridge. A grade depends on the student’s own work, so no teacher can promise one.

Can online lessons address speaking and writing?

Yes. Speaking is a conversation, and a one-to-one video lesson is a conversation. The teacher asks a question, you answer, the teacher asks a follow-up, and you practise expanding a short reply into a fuller one.

Writing is taught the same way. You write a short piece, the teacher reads it with you, and you revise it in the lesson. Practising how to ask for clarification, for example Pouvez-vous répéter, s’il vous plaît ?, is part of the work, because real exchanges do not always go smoothly.

For self-practice, the original listening practice player lets you attempt an item and then review it. The private speaking recorder lets you record yourself on your own device and listen back.

Which French syllabus is mine?

Settle this before you plan any revision. This page covers 0520, French (Foreign Language). First Language French 0501 is a separate qualification.

Here is what to check:

  1. The code on your entry statement. Your school or exam centre can show you which one you are entered for.
  2. The exam year. Components, weightings and speaking arrangements can change between exam years. The syllabus and exam-year navigator helps you find the right Cambridge page, and unknown combinations return a checking list, never a guess.
  3. Your entry route. Registration, entries and results are handled by your exam centre and Cambridge, not by us. The assessment guide lists what to check and where.

How do the skills break down?

The four skills feed each other, and a few language foundations sit underneath all of them.

Foundations, taught through sound, spelling and intelligibility, sentence foundations and agreement, present-time expression and past and future meaning.

Reading and listening, taught through reading for meaning and listening for key information.

Writing and speaking, taught through developing an original written response and speaking preparation and interaction.

Topics and integration, taught through everyday routines and arrangements, people and personal experiences, places, travel and the environment, study, work and future interests, culture and international experiences and integrating language skills.

The learning guide puts these in a sensible study order.

How does it work, from enquiry to first lesson?

  1. Enquire on WhatsApp. Tell us you are interested in French tuition. You can add your code, your year and what you find difficult, but you do not need to fill in a long form.
  2. Teacher assignment. We assign an experienced teacher who suits your needs and schedule. The teacher’s rate for the paid trial is confirmed to you before the lesson.
  3. Paid one-hour trial. This is a taught class, starting from RM80 at the assigned teacher’s confirmed rate. The trial agenda builder helps you decide what to bring and what to ask.
  4. Later arrangements. Fees continue at the same rate as the trial; schedule and frequency are arranged with the teacher. The post-trial reflection guide helps you judge whether the hour helped.

More detail on each stage is on the trial page and the how it works page, and what happens after the trial is explained separately.

What should you bring to the trial?

A trial works well when the teacher has something real to look at. Bring one or two of these:

  • A short paragraph you wrote in French, marked or unmarked.
  • A listening or reading question you got wrong and cannot explain.
  • A speaking topic you find hard to develop, or a question you froze on.
  • Your code and exam year, so the lesson starts from the right place.

If you are unsure what to work on first, the guide to choosing a lesson focus walks through the decision.

Is the teaching just vocabulary?

No. Words are taught inside sentences you need, and grammar is taught when your own French shows it needs attention. The habits matter most: reading the task, covering each point, hearing the detail and checking agreement before you finish.

9,000+ students have been helped through our service, across all subjects. That is a service-wide figure, so judge French by the trial hour itself.

Where can you start before the trial?

You do not have to wait. Several parts of this site are free to use on their own.

When you are ready, use the WhatsApp button on this page to enquire about French tuition. The message already names your subject, and you can edit it before sending.

Questions people ask

Is this tuition for French 0520 or First Language French 0501?

It is for Cambridge IGCSE French (Foreign Language) 0520. First Language French 0501 is a different qualification. Check the code on your entry statement and tell us when you enquire, so the lessons start from the right route.

Can speaking and writing really be taught in online one-to-one lessons?

Yes. Speaking is a live two-way exchange, which works well on video with one teacher listening to you. For writing, the teacher sees your draft as you work on it, asks why you chose each form, and has you revise it during the lesson. The writing stays yours.

What happens in the paid one-hour trial?

It is a taught class with an experienced teacher assigned to you, not a consultation. You bring a real piece of work, such as a short paragraph, a listening attempt or a speaking topic. The rate is confirmed before the lesson and starts from RM80.

I am a beginner in French. Is one-to-one tuition too early?

Not necessarily. A teacher can start with sounds, spelling and basic sentence patterns, and build from there. Tell us where you are at the enquiry, and the trial hour will show whether the pace and focus suit you.

Will the teacher write my French for me or give me a script to memorise?

No. The French you write and say has to be your own. A teacher shows you how to plan, check agreement and tense, and expand an answer, then you produce the language. Memorised scripts break when a question changes, so we teach flexible phrases instead.

How do fees and schedules work after the trial?

Fees continue at the same rate as the trial; schedule and frequency are arranged with the teacher. The right lesson frequency depends on what the trial shows about your French and your timetable.
