Current task guidance and revision: original mixed practice with explanations

Knowing the revision method is one thing, and using it on a messy set of real errors is another.

This set practises the method from current task guidance and revision: checking your route, choosing practice, logging errors, planning a repeat attempt and setting goals. Questions run from easy to harder. All Malay sentences and people are invented for practice.

Answer each on paper first. Then open the explanation and note each slip in the mistake log and retest queue.

Questions

1. Which Cambridge code is Foreign Language Malay, and which is First Language Malay? Where do you confirm the details?

Show answer

Foreign Language Malay is 0546 and First Language Malay is 0696. Confirm the details on the Cambridge syllabus page for your code and exam year, and confirm your entry with your exam centre.

2. Name three things a requirements sheet records.

Show answer

The code and exam year, the official wording of what each skill requires, and your own paraphrase. A “still to confirm” column is also useful.

3. A learner says “My SPM Bahasa Melayu notes tell me how Cambridge marks Malay.” Give a short response.

Show answer

School Malay notes help with vocabulary and grammar, but the task types and marking come from the Cambridge syllabus for your code. Check the Cambridge page rather than assuming the two match.

4. Correct the sentence and name the pattern: Kami pergi pantai hari Ahad.

Show answer

Kami pergi ke pantai hari Ahad. The pattern is a missing preposition: ke follows pergi before a place.

5. Correct the sentence and name the pattern: Buku itu di baca oleh Aina.

Show answer

Buku itu dibaca oleh Aina. The pattern is spacing: the prefix di- joins the verb in a passive. Compare the preposition di in “di rumah”, which stays separate.

6. Correct the sentence: Ibu membeli banyak sayur-sayur di pasar.

Show answer

Ibu membeli banyak sayur di pasar. or Ibu membeli banyak sayur-sayuran di pasar. After “banyak” the plural idea is already there, so doubling the noun as “sayur-sayur” is not standard. The pattern is reduplication.

7. A log has eight entries: prefix 4, spelling 1, word choice 2, punctuation 1. Which pattern is the first target, and what is the share of the log?

Show answer

Prefix. It is 4 of 8, which is half of the log. Checking: 4 + 1 + 2 + 1 = 8.

8. Rewrite this goal so it can be checked: “Be better at Malay speaking.”

Show answer

For example: “Answer a spoken prompt for one minute with no pause longer than a few seconds, shown by a recording made next week.” It names the skill, the task and the check.

9. Aina (watak rekaan) writes two short pieces. Attempt one: Saya pergi pasar. Saya pergi sekolah. Attempt two: Saya pergi ke pasar. Saya pergi sekolah. Her target was “ke after pergi”. Write a fair comparison.

Show answer

“Ke after pergi improved from 0 of 2 to 1 of 2, so the habit is starting to change but is not secure.” The missing ke in the second sentence of attempt two goes back into the log.

10. Which task is the better main writing practice for a learner on a foreign-language route, and why? (A) a short message inviting a friend to a school event, (B) a long editorial on the national economy.

Show answer

(A), because it has a clear purpose and reader and is closer to everyday communication. Option B is likely beyond the route. Confirm both against your own syllabus page.
