Reviewing a transcript means going back to the words after you have answered, finding the sentence that decides the answer, and naming why your first choice failed. The skill is turning a wrong answer into a one-line reason you could say in Malay.
This lesson closes reading and listening for meaning. It uses all four earlier skills, from locating a requirement to pronoun referents, as the labels for what went wrong.
How do you review a transcript?
Use four steps:
- Mark the question keyword in the transcript.
- Underline the deciding sentence, usually the one that contains a negative, a correction or a pronoun.
- Name the error type from your short list.
- Write the reason in one Malay sentence: Saya pilih … kerana … berkata …
Record the error type in a mistake log. After a week, the most frequent label tells you what to practise.
Worked example
Invented transcript for practice:
Ibu: Farah, kenapa awak lambat pulang? Bas rosak ke? Farah: Bukan, Ibu. Bas tidak rosak. Saya menolong Cikgu Ani menyusun buku di perpustakaan. Ibu: Oh, ibu ingat awak ada latihan netball. Farah: Latihan netball dibatalkan kerana hujan.
Question: Mengapakah Farah lambat pulang? A. Bas rosak. B. Dia ada latihan netball. C. Dia menolong cikgu menyusun buku. D. Hujan lebat.
A student chose A.
Step 1: keyword: lambat pulang. Step 2: deciding sentence: Saya menolong Cikgu Ani menyusun buku di perpustakaan. Step 3: the student’s choice came from Ibu’s guess Bas rosak ke?, and Farah denied it with Bukan … tidak rosak. Error type: missed negative. Step 4: Saya patut pilih C kerana Farah berkata dia menolong Cikgu Ani menyusun buku. Pilihan A salah kerana dia berkata bas tidak rosak.
What mistake do students make?
The common slip is writing a reason that restates the answer without evidence. “C is correct because she helped the teacher” repeats the option and does not point to the words.
Weak reason: C betul sebab dia tolong cikgu.
It is true but gives no support from the transcript, and it skips why A and B are wrong.
A stronger reason quotes the deciding sentence and rules out one wrong option with its own evidence. Notice that the stronger version also shows the student how the distractors were built: a guess, a denial and a cancelled plan.

Three students reviewed their answers. Name the error type for each and write the reason in Malay.
1. Transcript: Encik Roslan: Yuran RM20, bukan RM25. Nombor lama itu salah. Question: Berapakah yuran? Student chose RM25.
Show answer
Error type: first detail instead of final. Reason: Saya patut pilih RM20 kerana Encik Roslan berkata yuran RM20, bukan RM25.
2. Transcript: Pak Mat dan anaknya, Rafi, membaiki motosikal. Dia memegang lampu manakala bapanya memegang alat. Question: Siapakah yang memegang alat? Student chose Rafi.
Show answer
Error type: wrong pronoun referent. Reason: Saya patut pilih Pak Mat kerana bapanya memegang alat, dan bapanya ialah Pak Mat.
3. Transcript: Perpustakaan tidak dibuka pada hari Ahad. Question: Apakah yang dibuka pada hari Ahad? Student chose perpustakaan.
Show answer
Error type: missed negative. Reason: Saya salah kerana teks berkata perpustakaan tidak dibuka pada hari Ahad.
Where this leads next
Put the whole module together in the reading and listening practice set, and use the original listening practice player for the audio side. Then keep your labels going in the mistake log.
Naming an error type is a skill of its own, and our teachers practise it with you in online one-to-one Malay tuition.
